Biography of Yandel

Yandel, born on January 14, 1977 in Cayey, Puerto Rico, is a urban genre singer whose birth name is Llandel Veguilla Malavé. His parents are Julio Veguilla and Lucy Malavé. Since his school days, Yandel has shown skill in rapping and interpreting reggaeton songs. In school, he met Wisin, with whom he would later form the duo known as Wisin and Yandel. Both dedicated themselves to barbering after leaving school, although Yandel studied theater and interpretation simultaneously.

Beginnings in music

Wisin and Yandel debuted by recording some songs on compilation albums, including the album No Fear 3 produced by DJ Dicky in 1997 and the compilation La Misión, Vol 1 edited by the label Fresh Production. The success of this compilation led to the singers producing their first album, Los Reyes del Nuevo Milenio. The duo continued to release songs and win important awards, including the Tu Música award for best rap and reggaeton duo in 2002.

Rumors about the separation of the Wisin & Yandel duo

However, after the success and rise of this duo, rumors began to surface about their separation. The following year, Wisin tested his acting skills by starring in the film Mi vida… My life. Wisin also participated in this production. In 2004, the first solo albums of Wisin, El Sobreviviente, and Yandel, ¿Quién contra mí?, appeared. The sales figures of both works were noteworthy

This album included songs that quickly became famous and were nominated for the Billboard Awards in a short time. Yandel has always been a person with a dreamy spirit, which is why he was able to consolidate one of his projects: creating his own record label, WY Records. In 2007, they received the nickname Los Extraterrestres because of the impact they generated in the world of reggaeton. In particular, the Wisin & Yandel duo was considered one of the best reggaeton artists of the moment next to Don Omar. From then on, they released successful productions such as Los Extraterrestres Reloaded, Otra Dimensión and Wisin & Yandel: La Mente Maestra.

Separation of the Wisin & Yandel duo

But his moment of glory began to decline and Yandel made the decision to separate from Wisin. This separation affected Wisin more. Several artists in this genre wrote lyrics mocking and criticizing him. However, Yandel continued with his career, releasing successful songs such as Hasta abajo with Daddy Yankee

and Don Omar. He also got a job as a mentor on the reality show La Voz México and La Voz Kids (United States). At that time, he was happily married to his teenage girlfriend, Edneris Espada, with whom he has two children: Adrián and Dereck. Yandel states that his wife is a great support for him and his musical career. He is a person who enjoys being with his family and his children.

Collaborations with other singers

In June 2014, he began working on his album and obtained the collaboration of Chayanne and Gilberto Santa Rosa. On August 25th, he released Legacy – De Líder a Leyenda Tour – EP, which is composed of five unreleased songs. On February 3rd, 2015, Legacy – De Líder a Leyenda Tour – Deluxe Edition, a live album with several unreleased songs, went on sale. It includes collaborations with Gilberto Santa Rosa, Farruko, J Álvarez, El General Gadiel and others. He was invited to open the Viña del Mar Song Festival on February 22nd.

Months later, he released his first single from a new album: “Calentura”, the first single of “Dangerous”, the full album. Finally, on November 6th, “Dangerous” was released with collaborations from Nicky Jam

, Pitbull, French Montana, De La Ghetto and others. In 2016, the music video for “Loba” was released and the following year, Yandel reaffirmed his fame and popularity with “Explícale” alongside Bad Bunny. In addition, other artists such as Maluma, Zion & Lennox, J Balvin, Plan B, Ozuna, Becky G, Luis Fonsi and Wisin participated in the album. Afterwards, the singer released several popular songs such as “Despacio”, “Todo comienza en la disco”, “Hacerte el amor”, “Fiebre”, “Se acabó el amor”, “Cuida’o”, “Hecha para mí”, “Curiosidad”, “Que tu novio no se entere” among others.

Collaboration between Wisin & Yandel

Despite the dissolution of the Dynamic Duo, Yandel and Wisin continue to make songs together, such as “Todo Comienza en la Disco” and “El Regreso”. It is important to note that Yandel has had greater projection and has managed to keep his solo career afloat. They surprised their fans when they announced they would carry out a tour.
