Millie Bobby Brown (born February 19, 2004) is a British actress and model, born in Marbella, Málaga, Spain. Her parents, Kelly and Robert Brown, are both of British origin. As a baby, Millie developed a severe hearing problem, and unfortunately, ended up losing the hearing in one ear after years of treatment. At the age of four, her parents made the decision to move to Bournemouth, Dorset. However, they were not able to achieve their goals in this location, and decided to move to Orlando, Florida, where her father found a job as a real estate manager.
Brown later began taking acting, dancing, and singing classes. She was a talented young girl and quickly caught the attention of a Hollywood talent scout. Initially, her dreams were hindered by her family’s financial situation but they were able to support her career through loans. In 2011, her acting career began to take off. After preparing extensively, Brown had the opportunity to audition for the lead role of Madison O’Donnell in the BBC America drama and suspense series Intruders (2014), where she got chosen by the jury.
After that, she appeared in various television series such as Once Upon a Time in Wonderland, a spin-off of Once Upon a Time, she won the role of NCIS (2014), as Rachel Barnes: a sociopathic girl. Later, in 2015, she participated in Modern Family and Grey’s Anatomy. Her real recognition came from her role as Eleven, a girl with telekinetic powers and other special gifts, in the series Stranger Things (since 2016), broadcast by Netflix. Thanks to this role, she received her first Emmy nomination at the age of 13 for Best Supporting Actress in a Series.
She was also nominated by the Screen Actors Guild for the award for Best Female Performance in a Dramatic Series and, along with the rest of the cast (Finn Wolfhard, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, Sadie Sink, Charlie Heaton, Noah Schnapp, Natalia Dyer…), she won the award for Best Supporting Performance in a Dramatic Series in 2017.
In addition to her acting accomplishments, Brown also earned critical acclaim and various nominations, including Screen Actors Guild awards for Best Actress in a Dramatic Series and Emmy awards for Best Supporting Actress in a Drama Series. Furthermore, she won the Saturn award for Best Young Actress in a Television Series in 2017. Her striking looks and slender figure have also allowed her to break into the modeling world, making her debut as a model in the Calvin Klein By Appointment campaign. She was soon after signed by IMG Models.
This opened doors for her to make her way into the film industry. In 2018, Lionsgate entered into an agreement with her to take on the lead role in the film adaptation of The Adventures of Enola Holmes, which she would also produce, set to be released in 2021. That same year she appeared in the music video for “Girls Like You” by Maroon 5 ft. Cardi B alongside Camila Cabello, Jennifer Lopez, Gal Gadot, Tiffany Haddish, Aly Raisman, Amani Al-Khatahtbeh and Ellen DeGeneres, among others.
In 2019, she starred in Godzilla: King of the Monsters and is set to star in its sequel, Godzilla vs. Kong in 2021. The young actress was included in Time magazine’s list of “the 100 most influential people in the world”, making her the youngest person to ever be included in the list.
Recently it was announced that she would be joining the cast for the upcoming film adaptation of Ali Benjamin’s novel, The Thing About Jellyfish, directed by Wanuri Kahiu.
Currently, Brown divides her time between London and Atlanta, Georgia. This is for her film projects and some modeling commitments. In her free time, she enjoys going to the stadium to watch her favorite team, Liverpool F.C., and she considers herself to be a big fan like her brother and her father. She also enjoys singing, especially the songs of the great artist Amy Winehouse, and attending martial arts competitions. She also plans to spend some time in her home country and learn Spanish.
