Grupo Frontera is a regional Mexican music group, originally from the United States. It was created in 2022 and its members are: Adelaido Solis III “Payo” (vocalist); Julián Peña Jr. (percussionist); Carlos Frontera (drummer); Alberto Acosta (guitarist); Carlos Zamora (bassist) and Juan Javier Cantú (accordionist and second voice).
Grupo Frontera has achieved great success after sharing their version of the famous song “No te va” by the Colombian band Morat. The song has been popularized to a great extent thanks to a very peculiar dance style that has motivated many people to imitate it. Since then, the group’s popularity has grown exponentially and they have gained a large number of followers and views on social media. Grupo Frontera has become one of the most popular groups of the moment, not only in Mexico, but also in other Latin American countries like Colombia.
Grupo Frontera started as a pastime among a group of friends from the Texas Valley, United States, with Mexican roots from Nuevo León and Tamaulipas. At the beginning of 2022, the group decided to undertake their musical adventure and began uploading videos of their covers on the YouTube platform. A distinctive feature of this group is that from its beginnings it has tended to interpret the Norteña and Cumbia versions of the most popular songs by other artists, which has allowed them to stand out in the world of music and conquer a large number of followers.
The Norteño group debuted in March 2022 on YouTube with the cover of “Estos Celos”, a song by Mexican singer Joan Sebastian. This video has over 1.3 million views.
In May 2022, a few months after opening their official channel on YouTube and uploading covers on social media, Grupo Frontera released their version of the famous song “No se va” by the Latin pop band Morat. According to the group members, the idea of making a version of this song was proposed by the guitarist Beto Acosta, a Morat fan who thought that the catchy rhythm of the song could easily be adapted to a cumbia style. One of the most interesting anecdotes about this song is that it ends in a fade out, that is, in a gradual decrease of sound. This is because they were recording in a residential place until late at night and were being forced to leave.
The song was supposed to end with “Quédate otra vez” extended.
The cover of “No se Va” has more than 156 million views, positioning itself as one of the 25 most watched videos in the world on Youtube.
On October 4, 2022, “No se va” performed by Grupo Frontera ranked #99 on the Billboard Hot 100. It received more than 4.8 million views and more than 1,000 downloads sold in the United States. “No se va”, Grupo Frontera version entered the top 15 of the Latin Streaming Songs, Hot Latin Song,
One of the reasons that helped this success go viral was when a couple posted a video of themselves dancing to this song; the peculiar way they danced made many people recreate this dance on the TikTok platform, making it a trend.
The man who appears in the original viral video is named Elmer and is from Chihuahua, State of Chihuahua, Mexico; he appears in the video compilation of the best dances of the No Se Va trend, which Grupo Frontera uploaded to their YouTube channel.
Fame has not only been for Grupo Frontera, because Mr. Elmer is sought after by many people to dance with him. So much is the fame that they make events to meet him and have a good time dancing.
Grupo Frontera surprised everyone with their remarkable collaboration alongside renowned reggaeton artist Bad Bunny, resulting in one of their most outstanding works to date. Together, they created the song “Un x100to”, a fusion of both genres prevalent in the artists, captivating their audience and followers. The collaboration was so unexpected that even the members of Grupo Frontera themselves were unaware that they were going to collaborate with the talented Puerto Rican artist until the day of the music video recording.
Grupo Frontera is one of the Mexican bands that has joined the popularity boom of regional Mexican music. With a unique style and a strong presence on social media, they have managed to gain a significant space in other Latin American countries. Like other genre exponents such as Grupo Firme
