Uma Thurman is an actress known for her roles in films such as Kill Bill, its sequel and Pulp Fiction.
After debuting in successful Hollywood films, Johnny Be Good (1987) and Kiss Daddy Goodnight (1987), Uma Thurman starred in Pulp Fiction in (1994). For her performance, she was nominated to the Oscar. After starring in films such as The Avengers (a film adaptation of the series of British television emitted between 1961 and 1969) and Batman and Robin, in 2003 she acted in two volumes of the epic Tarantino films, Kill Bill as a vengeful assassin.
Actress Uma Thurman was born on April 29, 1970, in Boston, Massachusetts. Named after a Hindu deity, Thurman made her debut in the film Kiss Daddy Goodnight (1987), a low-budget thriller. Her first known role was as Venus by Terry Gilliam from The Adventures of Baron Munchausen (1988).
At the age of 18, she starred in Dangerous Liaisons (1988), a large-budget vintage piece starring John Malkovich and Glenn Close, and in 1989 she starred in Henry and June, the first film to be released with an NC-17 (Children No less than 17 years old) rating.
After appearing in a series of successful Hollywood films, she starred in Pulp Fiction (1994), the second film by highly acclaimed independent director, Quentin Tarantino. For her performance nuanced in the underworld of glamor, she was nominated for best actress in the Oscar’s.
Thurman capitalized on her success and popularity after Pulp Fiction by appearing in a series of big-budget productions such as Gattaca (1997), Batman and Robin (1997), Les Miserables (1998) and The Avengers (1998).
Thurman took a more independent course and projects a little riskier, with Sweet and Lowdown (Sweet and melancholy, Chords and Disagreements or The Great Lover) that was a Woody Allen movie, Merchant / Ivory by Henry James, The Golden Bowl (2000) and Chelsea Walls (2001), directed by Ethan Hawke who was her husband at that time.
In 2003, Uma starred in the two-volume Quentin Tarantino epic Kill Bill as a vengeful assassin. The actress also starred with Ben Affleck, in Paycheck. A film adaptation of the science fiction short story “Pay,” written by Philip K. Dick. Directed by John Woo.
In 2005, in The Producers, Thurman ventured into musical comedy with Nathan Lane and Matthew Broderick. With the film My super ex-girlfriend (2006), which turned out to be a commercial failure and very critical.
In recent years, Thurman has taken on a variety of roles, from a mythical monster in Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief (2010) to a powerful Parisian woman in Bel Ami (2012).
Thurman married the British actor Gary Oldman in 1990. They divorced in 1992. In 1998, she married the co-star of Gattaca, Ethan Hawke, and in the same year, she welcomed her first child, Maya Ray Thurman- Hawke. In 2001, the couple had another son, Roan. Thurman and Hawke separated two years later and then divorced in 2004. Thurman and Arpad Busson, her boyfriend, had a daughter on July 15, 2012.
