His father is the founder of Horatio Investment Ltd. and also owns the renowned electric scooter brand, Pure. Lando is the second of four siblings. His family ranks among the top 501 wealthiest families in the UK, and it’s likely they will continue to climb higher on that list each day.
Lando Norris attended Millfield School. From a young age, he displayed a keen interest in MotoGP and dreamed of pursuing a career in that discipline. However, when his older brother Oliver started getting into karting, it caught the attention of young Lando Norris and steered him towards that direction.
His career began at the age of 7 in a regional karting tournament. He stood out in the CIK-FIA championships in 2013 and 2014, winning the KF World Championship and becoming the youngest driver to achieve this feat. He also had success in the Ginetta Junior championship. In 2015, he was crowned champion in the British F4 championship and secured podium finishes in the German and Italian Formula 4 tournaments.
In 2016, Lando Norris showcased his talent in motorsport by winning the NEC and Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0 championships with the Josef Kaufmann team. Additionally, he achieved several podiums in the BRDC Formula 3 races and became the champion of the Toyota Racing Series.
Norris’s momentum continued in 2017 when he became the youngest ever FIA European Formula 3 champion in history. His skill on the tracks didn’t go unnoticed, and in November of the same year, he was announced as the official Formula 1 test and reserve driver for McLaren for the following year.
In 2018, Lando Norris had the opportunity to participate as the third driver in the Belgian and Italian Grands Prix, replacing Stoffel Vandoorne and Fernando Alonso. He also held that position in five other races towards the end of the year.
Subsequently, Norris moved on to compete in a full season of Formula 2. He had a strong start by winning the opening race in Bahrain, which boosted his championship title aspirations. Throughout the season, he secured eight additional podiums, placing him as the runner-up, as George Russell claimed the top spot.
On September 3, 2018, McLaren made the official announcement of Lando Norris joining as one of the Formula 1 drivers for the 2019 season, forming a team alongside Carlos Sainz Jr.
In his debut at the Australian Grand Prix, he showcased excellent performance by qualifying in eighth position. In the following race in Bahrain, he impressed by earning his first points, finishing in a commendable sixth place. Throughout the season, Lando continued to stand out with outstanding performances, amassing 49 points and concluding his debut season in the eleventh position.
The 2020 season began with great momentum as the British driver secured his first podium at the Austrian Grand Prix, the opening race. Furthermore, he achieved five more top-five finishes throughout the year, allowing him to finish in ninth place in the drivers’ championship with 97 points. His consistent performances and outstanding teamwork alongside Spanish driver Carlos Sainz Jr. ensured that McLaren finished in third place in the 2020 constructors’ championship.
In 2021, Lando had a remarkable year, achieving four podiums in Imola, Monaco, Austria, and Monza, and securing an impressive sixth position in the drivers’ standings. He had a new teammate, Australian driver Daniel Ricciardo. This impressive performance led Lando to sign a new contract, securing his continuity with McLaren until at least the year 2025.
For the 2022 season, a new era in F1 arrived with completely new cars, providing Norris with the opportunity to further grow in Formula 1. With determination, Lando Norris secured a podium at Imola, in addition to achieving two fastest laps throughout the season. Thanks to these results, he finished in seventh place with a total of 122 points.
