Austin Agustín Santos, known as “Arcángel,” is a singer, composer, producer, businessman and actor born on December 23, 1985 in New York (United States). Although he was born in the United States, he grew up in Santurce, Puerto Rico, with Dominican parents named Austín Santos and Carmen Rosa, who was part of the Dominican group Las Chicas del Can.
From a young age, Austin was interested in music and grew up listening to various genres. In 1999, he moved to Puerto Rico and became part of the Arcángel & De La Ghetto duo, which became very popular among reggaeton fans in the United States and Puerto Rico in the mid-2000s. The duo signed with the record label Baby Records by singer and composer Zion and also participated with Machete Music in 2004 while recording compilation albums. In December 2006, Austin left the record company and announced that he would embark on a solo career and start his own label.
After the duo separated in early 2007, Arcángel embarked on a solo project, working with various reggaeton performers and producers on compilation albums. One of the most notable was a compilation album produced that same year called “Flow La Discoteka 2”
In 2008, Arcángel decided to release his first solo album titled “La Maravilla”. However, the album was cancelled because it leaked on the internet during the spring of that year. The tracks were distributed through his official website. One of the leaked tracks titled “Pa que la pases bien” became a popular track in Latin America and on urban radio stations in the United States.
That same year, he released his second studio album titled “El Fenómeno”, featuring collaborations with Don Omar and Tempo, and featuring the single “Por amar a ciegas” which became a huge hit on urban radio stations in the United States.
In 2008, Arcángel also starred in the film Muerte En El Paraíso.
For 2009, Arcángel announced his tour of Europe to promote his debut album El Fenómeno.
In 2012, he joined the record label Pina Récords, owned by businessman Rafael Pina, one of the most successful and specialized companies in event organization, consulting, production and filming of urban music videos. He also participated in the album La fórmula. “Me Prefieres a Mi”, this song reached the top positions in Latin America, Europe and the United States.
In 2013, he worked on the recording of several singles, including “Somos Millonarios” where he shares rhymes with Daddy Yankee. This year he also released his highly anticipated third studio album.
In November 2015, he released his mixtape “Los Favoritos” with DJ Luian, which quickly reached the top spot in digital sales. With his single “Las 50 Sombras de Austin,” he left many wanting to hear more, as the unique style and rhythm that has always characterized La Maravilla’s music came with even more force.
In 2016, he worked on his studio album “Historias De Un Capricornio,” with tracks such as “14 F,” “Me Dejo Llevar” and “Decisiones.” Arcángel’s musical style is very complete, although his focus is urban reggaeton, he adds rhythms of all kinds, such as hip hop, R&B, merengue, bachata, etc. Since 2002, his official style has been defined as reggaeton with many variations in his performances and has remained so to this day.
