Scarlett Johansson Biography

Scarlett Johansson is an American film and model-actress, recognized for her participation in films such as The Horse Whisperer, The Avengers, Lucy, among others. She was born in New York on November 22, 1984, and is the daughter of Melanie Sloan and Karsten Johansson, both of whom were of limited financial means. She studied at the Greenwich Village elementary school in Manhattan. Her theatrical training was at the Professional Children’s School, where she graduated in 2002.

 

ACTING CAREER

Scarlett Johansson began acting since she was a child, as her mother took her to participate in auditions. She debuted in the cinema at the age of 9, in the comedy “North” (1994), where she acted as the daughter of John Ritter. A year later, she played the role of the daughter of Sean Connery and Kate Capshaw in the movie “Just Cause.”

In 1996, she made a small role in the movie “If Lucy Fell.” That same year, she played the role of Amanda in “Manny & Lo” and for her performance was nominated for the Independent Spirit Award for best actress.

For the year 1997, she made supporting roles in the films “Fall” and “Home Alone 3.” A year later, she was part of the film “The horse whisperer” and thanks to her excellent performance, Johansson began to be more recognized in the movies, was also nominated by the Association of Film Critics of Chicago to the Most Promising Actress.

In 1999, he was part of “My Brother the Pig” and in 2001 in the movie “The man who wasn’t there.” For the movie “Ghost World” (2001), she received praise and recognition. In the year 2002, she appeared in “Eight Legged Freaks”.

For the year 2003, Scarlett Johansson played Charlotte in the movie “Lost in Translation” for which she received many accolades, being listed as calm and serene when acting. She won the BAFTA Award and the Boston Society of Film Critics Award for Best Actress; she was also nominated for the Golden Globe for best actress, the Broadcast Film Critics Association, and the Chicago Film Critics Association.

In the month of June of the year 2004, Scarlett Johansson was invited to join the Academy of Arts and Cinematographic Sciences. That same year he made roles on screen or voice in five films: “SpongeBob: The Movie”, “A Good Woman”, “The Perfect Score”, “In Good Company” and “A Love Song for Bobby Long”; for this last performance she obtained a Golden Globe nomination for best actress.

In July 2005, she starred with Ewan McGregor in the movie “The Island.” That same year she was again nominated for the Golden Globe Awards.

For the year 2006, Scarlett Johansson played a supporting role in Christopher Nolan’s film “The Prestige” which was a success with the income and criticism around the world, coming to be recommended by the Los Angeles Times as an adult, provocative artwork. She starred in the film “The Nanny Diaries” in 2007, which had little fundraising at the income and was a critical failure.

In 2008, Scarlett Johansson starred with Natalie Portman and Eric Bana in the movie “The Other Boleyn Girl.” A year later, she played the role of Anna in the movie He’s Just Not That into You, which had a successful income level. In March of 2009, she was chosen to play the role of the black widow in the movie “Iron Man 2” which was released in 2010.

For the month of November 2010, was chosen to star in the film adaptation of Michel Faber’s novel “Under the Skin.” The movie was released in the United States in 2014 and was the target of good reviews.

In early March 2012, it was reported that Scarlett Johansson had been hired to play Janet Leigh in the movie “Hitchcock,” which was released in November that year and was well received by the public.

On May 2, 2012, Scarlett Johansson received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame at 6931 Hollywood Blvd, in front of the Madame Tussauds Museum. By that time, she repeated her role as Natasha Romanoff (The Black Widow) in the movie “The Avengers,” the film received positive reviews and was a great blockbuster.

For July 25, 2014, Scarlett Johansson was the protagonist of the movie “Lucy.” She also repeated her role as Black Widow in the movie “Captain America: The Winter Soldier,” which received positive reviews. In addition, he played the black widow in “The Avengers: Age of Ultron,” which premiered on May 1, 2015.

 

MUSIC CAREER

In 2006, Scarlett Johansson recorded the song “Summertime” by George Gershwin, in a collection of songs recorded by Hollywood actors.

On May 20, 2008, she released his first album titled “Anywhere I Lay My Head” produced by Dave Sitek. The album received mixed reviews and was named the 23rd best album of 2008 by NME132; also reached the position number 1 on the Billboard Top Heatseekers and number 126 on the Billboard 200. For the year 2009, she recorded a cover of the song “Last Goodbye” by Jeff Buckley, for the soundtrack of the movie “He’s Just Not That into You” In September of that year, along with singer and songwriter Pete Yorn recorded the album entitled “Break Up.”

In 2010 the band Steel Train released the album Terrible Thrills Vol. 1, which included their favorite female artists singing songs from their album, where Scarlett Johansson

interpreted the song “Bullet.” A year later she recorded “One Whole Hour” for the documentary Wretches and Jabberers. For the year 2015, she formed the pop band Singles, together with Este Haim, Holly Miranda, Kendra Morris and Julia Haltigan, with whom she released the song in February of that year “Candy.”
