Meryl Streep Biography

Mary Louise Streep, known as Meryl Streep, is an American film, theater and television actress, known for being one of the best actresses in history and on several occasions chosen as the best in the world. She was born in Summit, New Jersey on June 22, 1949, and is the daughter of Mary Wilkinson Streep and Harry William Streep, Jr.

She lived his childhood in Bernardsville, New Jersey, where she studied at Bernards High School. She had many Catholic friends who attended mass, because, due to his Presbyterian formation, she liked those religious celebrations very much.

In 1971, she obtained a B.A. in Drama at Vassar College, where she received some instructions from Jean Arthur. Meryl also graduated with a master’s in fine arts from the School of Drama at Yale University. While at Yale, she played several roles such as Helena’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” and that of an eighty-year-old wheelchair-bound woman in a comedy written by Christopher Durang and Albert Innaurato.

 

ARTISTIC CAREER

After graduating from Yale, Meryl Streep was part of several theater productions in New York and New Jersey, including works from the Shakespeare Park Festival, such as Enrique V, The Taming of the Shrew, along with Raúl Juliá, and Measure for Measure. At that time, she was the protagonist of the play “Happy End” also won an Obie prize for her participation in “Alice at the Palace.”
