Lily Collins Biography

Lily Jane Collins (March 18, 1989) is an actress who was born in Guildford, Surrey, England. Daughter of the British musician Phil Collins and his second wife, the American Jill Tavelman. Lily is half-sister of the actress Joely Collins and the musician Simon Collins. Lily, studied at Harvard-Westlake School, later attended the University of Southern California where she studied television journalism.

After graduating she did not develop her career, as such, but she started to enter in the acting industry. Although, at the age of two, Lily Collins had already participated in the series of the BBC “Growing Pains”. In her adolescence, Collins wrote a column named NY Confidential for the British magazine Elle Girl. She also wrote for Seventeen, Teen Vogue, and other Los Angeles Times magazines. She was Nickelodeon’s correspondent on the orange carpet for the Kids’ Choice Awards. Although her life seemed perfect, the young woman was dealing with an eating problem. Through several years, during her puberty, the girl dealt with anorexia in silence. A silence that ended in 2017 when confessed it front of the cameras.

Lily’s dream had started coming true when she played the role of “Collins” in the movie “The Blind Side” (2009)

where she played the daughter of Leigh Anne Touhy (Sandra Bullock”. After her good performance, she starred in films such as “Mirror Mirror” where she played Snow White along with Julia Roberts who played the wicked stepmother of Snow White. That same year she participated in the film Stuck in Love (2012) with actors Greg Kinnear, Logan Lerman, Jennifer Connelly and Nat Wolff. She, also was in “Abduction” with Taylor Lautner, despite its bad critiques, her performance did not receive negative comments. Finally, she performed in “Priest” in 2011 as Lucy Pace. She participated in one of the most important festivals in the world, the 2012 Toronto International Film Festival.

One of her greatest achievement in her artistic career was, starring in the saga of the German production company Constantin Film, which adapted the international best-seller of the writer Cassandra Clare, “The mortal instruments: City of bones” (2013) as Clary Fray with Jamie Campbell Bower, Robert Sheehan, Kevin Zegers and Jemima West. Collins was a fan of the sagas before being selected for the character and felt very honored to participate in this film. Unfortunately, the saga might not be continued due to the low money collection. The producer Constantin Film decided to indefinitely suspend the recording of the sequel “City of Ashes”.

Soon after, she took the lead in the comedy and romance film “Love, Rosie” with Sam Claflin, a film adaptation of the book “Where Rainbows End”. Another of her important leading roles was in the film “Rules Don’t Apply” (2016) as Marla Mabrey with Alden Ehrenreich, with her acting performance she was nominated for the Golden Globes 2017 in the Best Actress category in a comedy or musical film.

The young woman has had a very active sentimental life. In 2011, she started a relationship with Taylor Lautner, but it did not last too long, they ended in September of that same year. Three months later, she confessed in an interview that she was going out with the famous Zac Efron, but she had the same luck, in June 2012 they announced the end of their short-term relationship. From July 2012 to September 2013, she was in a relationship with Jamie Campbell Bower. However, they ended a few years later. In May of 2015, they tried to come back together but their attempt did not last long, the relationship ended in February 2016.

Lily is a very discreet young woman. She likes to keep her personal life out of the sight of paparazzi and magazines. She loves to keep a low profile. In an interview with followers of Shadow hunters, she said that she prefers to be away from the scandals and dramas of the film industry. She also said that prefers to be with her friends hanging out at home. Besides, her friends are not part of the world of acting. She described herself as a fun but very calm woman. She has never been one of those persons that go in front of the cameras to get attention.

In 2017, she plays a young woman with anorexia problems in “To the bone”. This film is perhaps the most relevant role she has had up to date. In this original Netflix movie, she is a 20-year-old girl, Ellen, who fights against anorexia. This role has generated much sensitivity to Lily because she dealt with this disorder. It is a challenge both personally and professionally, which has had to face Lily Collins.
