Was a defamation trial that took place on April 11, 2022, in which Vasquez became known as one of Depp’s legal team lawyers. During the trial, Vasquez was a key figure in debunking several of the allegations of physical, sexual and mental abuse made by Heard since her separation from Depp in 2016 with evidence. Through her interrogations and with the help of several key witnesses, Vasquez was able to prove that Heard had lied in several statements and that, in fact, it was Heard who abused Depp both physically and mentally during the time they were married.
One of the big surprises of the trial was the recording in which Heard admits to physically abusing Depp. It was also important for Depp the statements of the TMZ employee, who admitted to being warned about the divorce and the alleged domestic abuse inflicted on Heard, and the statements of Kate Moss, who denied the rumors of a supposed attack by Depp while they were a couple. In addition, Vasquez and Depp’s legal team proved that Heard lied about the payment of $7 million dollars to organizations against domestic abuse agreed upon during the divorce in 2017.
“She ruined her life by falsely telling the world that she was a victim of domestic abuse at the hands of Mr. Depp,” Camille Vasquez
Due to her tough interrogations of Heard, Vasquez became an Internet sensation. On May 27, 2022, Vasquez presented the final arguments of the trial. She argued that Heard had “played the role of her life”
Before the jury, Vasquez asked for Depp’s image to be cleared, recognizing Heard as the abuser.
“There is an abuser in this room, but it is not Mr. Depp (…) Mr. Depp suffered persistent verbal, physical and emotional abuse.”
On June 1, 2022, the jury ruled in favor of Depp in the Depp v. Heard case, awarding him $15 million in damages. Heard also obtained a favorable ruling on one of her three charges and received $2 million. The judge reduced the punitive damages awarded to Heard to a total of $10.35 million awarded to Depp. Vasquez received a lot of public attention for her representation of Depp in the trial and was called a “overnight celebrity” by Vogue magazine.
