Albert Arnold Gore, Jr (Al Gore) Biography

Although his full name is Albert Arnold Gore, Jr., he is known simply as Al Gore. He is a prominent American politician, remembered especially for the position he held in the North American Congress, and also for having served as Vice President of the nation during the government of the Democrat: Bill Clinton.

Al Gore was born on March 31, 1948, in Washington D.C, United States. His father is Albert Gore Sr, who served as a senator, which is why it could be said that politics was something he carried in his blood. His mother is Pauline LaFon Gore. His childhood was spent in Carthage, Tennessee, and Washington.

In 1969, he graduated in Government Studies from Harvard University. After his graduation, he enlisted in the Army, fulfilling his military service in Vietnam. A few years later, in 1970, he entered the Military College where he worked as a publicist. When he returned to the civilian life, Al Gore decided to settle in Tennessee, where he took some religion classes at Vanderbilt University, while working as a reporter for the newspaper “The Tennessean” in Nashville. In 1973, it was the birth of his first daughter.

Years later, he attended the Law School of Vanderbilt University. Thus, his career as a politician began formally in 1976 when he was elected to represent Tennessee in the United States House of Representatives and later on 1984 when he became a senator, a position in which he was re-elected in 1990, making history for being the first state candidate of today to win the 95 counties of Tennessee.

It should also be noted that, along with his political career, Al Gore has played an important role as an ecological activist. In 1992, a year before becoming the vice president of Clinton (forty-fifth Vice President of the United States) Al Gore, published “Earth in the Balance: Ecology and Human Spirit” a work with which he proposes and invites to be done an ecological revolution in the 21st century. Over the years, as well as seeking to consolidate his political aspirations, it also reaffirmed his enduring struggle in favor of global ecological awareness.

“… we are beginning to act in almost every facet of our civilization as if our future were so precarious that it made more sense to focus exclusively on our current needs and immediate problems” Al Gore

Sometime later, in the year 2000, he was elected by the Democratic Party to fight for the presidency against the Republican George W. Bush, who, as is well known, won, but even though Al Gore obtained fewer votes, he managed to win by the most in the popular vote. Although this election was full of doubts, Al Gore decided to recognize the defeat.

Thus, once out of the political contest, for a few months, Al Gore, he devoted himself to teaching journalism and recovering the ground he had gained in matters inherent to ecology, offering several conferences on the subject. Sometime later, in 2002, he became one of the main spokesmen against the policy in Iraq carried out by the President and former opponent: George W. Bush.

In 2006, he was the protagonist of the Oscar-winning Documentary: “An Inconvenient Truth” a documentary on climate change, through which Al Gore calls for the development of clean energies to avoid the progressive destruction of the planet.

Later, together with the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) of the UN, he won the Nobel Peace Prize in 2007, thanks to his tireless work in favor of spreading knowledge about climate change caused by the mankind. Also for the presentation of different proposals to combat it. That same year, former Vice-President Albert Arnold “Al” Gore was awarded the Prince of Asturias Award for International Cooperation, where the jury, headed by the former Spanish Prime Minister: Leopoldo Calvo Sotelo, awarded him “for his decisive contribution to the solution of the serious problems caused by climate change that threatens the planet.”

Regarding his personal life, Al Gore is married to Mary Elizabeth “Tipper” Aitcheson, who is a writer, photojournalist, and activist, and also advised former President Clinton on matters related to mental health. They have four children: Karenna, Kristin, Sarah, and Albert. Al and Tipper Gore are owners of a small farm, and both Al Gore and his whole family are attending the religious services of the New Salem Baptist Missionary Church in Carthage.

It should be noted that Al Gore is the founder and current president of the Alliance for Climate Protection, co-founder, and president of Generation Investment Management and the already defunct network of Current TV, member of the Board of Apple Inc. and a senior Google advisor. In addition to this, he has served as a visiting professor at universities such as the Central Tennessee State.
