Adele Biography

Her full name is Adele Laurie Blue Adkins, but she is known worldwide only as “Adele”. She is an English singer, born on May 5, 1988, in the British city of Tottenham, north of London. She is the daughter of Englishwoman Penny Adkins and Welshman Mark Evans, an alcoholic man who abandoned them when Adele was only two years old, leaving her mother with the responsibility of raising her.

Her mother then became an essential support, since she was who encouraged Adele’s interest in music by taking her to concerts as a child. Perhaps that is the reason why being only four years, Adele began to sing, being interested since then in the different tones of voices and having the Spice Girls as their inspiration and most important influence.

In 1997, at the age of nine, Adele and her mother moved to Brighton. Two years later, when she was eleven years old, they returned to London, settling in Brixton, and then in West Norwood.

In 2003, at the age of fourteen, she discovered CDs by Etta James and Ella Fitzgerald at a jazz antique store, and this was an awakening for her, as she began to listen to Etta James during that time an hour every day, and such routine led her to know her own voice. That same year, she entered the BRIT School of Arts.

A year later, in 2004, she wrote and composed the song “Hometown Glory” which refers to the district of West Norwood, having by then sixteen years. Then, in May 2006, Adele graduated from the art school, where they had also studied renowned artists such as Amy Winehouse, Katie Melua, and Kate Nash. Four months later, she published two songs in the online magazine of performing arts: PlatformsMagazine.

Interestingly, after graduating, she was more interested in discovering talents and turning them into celebrities than in starting a musical career. But on one occasion, as part of her preparation at the art school, she recorded some demos and a friend uploaded them to MySpace, which resulted in a short time being discovered by Richard Russell of XL Recordings, who was amazed by that portentous and sensual voice overflowing with nuances that has the ability to express the power of soul and also has jazz incursions, and so he did not hesitate to contact her immediately.

At first, Adele doubted the veracity of the offer and thought it was “an Internet pervert” since she had never heard of such a label, so she decided to go to the meeting. In this way, Adele signed her first recording contract in mid-2006 with manager Jonathan Dickins. However,

in September of the same year, she left the seal and signed with Jamie T of XL.

Thus, in October 2007, she released her debut song, that was composed years before: “Hometown Glory”. With this label, she also released her second single: “Chasing Pavements” which received a good critique, which led to different media broadcasting her music on different radios and even invited Adele to interpret her songs.

“Hometown Glory” was the single that consecrated her as a firm promise to get the second place in the best seller. So much that, after a year and was invited to share the stage with artists like Björk and Paul McCartney.

During the recording of his collaboration in the song “My Yvonne” by Jack Peñate, she met the producer Jim Abbiss, who was responsible for producing much of her debut album: “19” and her successor, “21”.

His album “19”, named after his age when she wrote and composed many of the songs, was released in 2008, reaching number 1 in the media, which earned to be certified 4 times as platinum in the United Kingdom, and received multiple awards and nominations, including the nomination for a Mercury Prize. She also received the award for Best Jazz Artist at the Urban Music Awards and was nominated in the Best British Woman

category at the Music of Black Origin.

Adele also won two Grammy Awards: Best New Artist and Best Pop Vocal Performance by a Female Singer and sold more than four million copies.

Her second album was called “21” also because of her age, it was released in 2011 with eleven songs that had been written by her; One month later, it was released in the United States. The album was a resounding commercial success, which earned her the fourth best-selling album of all time. Such popularity in the United States was in part due to her appearance on an episode of the television program, “Saturday Night Live” which surpassed all previous levels of audience, in fourteen years it had been on the air.

The well-known song “Someone Like You” was written by her along with producer Dan Wilson, and was inspired by a man who was around 30 years old with whom she had been for 18 months and with him who thought about getting married, but soon after they broke up. She learned that he was about to marry another girl. Thus, the composition of this song represented a kind of liberating therapy.
